MSC Crociere S.A. (Website) is an Italian-Swiss cruise company, founded in 1987 by the Sorrentino Gianluigi Aponte. Originally founded as Flotta Lauro Lines by the Italian Achille Lauro, the company started its operations in the world of cruises in the 1960s with two ships SS Angelina Lauro and MS Achille Lauro.
In 1989, the company Flotta Lauro was acquired by Mediterranean Shipping Company, the second largest container shipping company by sea with a fleet of close to 400 vessels. That same year, the company was renamed StarLauro Crociere. In 1995, the company was renamed again due to the loss of popularity due to several fires that sank the two ships of the company, that’s when MSC Crociere was born.
Currently, MSC Crociere is the fourth largest cruise ship operator in the world and the second in Europe, 1 second only to Carnival Corporation & PLC, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Norwegian-Star Cruises.
